I have a turkey neck; what treatments are available to address this issue?
A turkey neck is a term for hanging skin fat and muscle underneath the chin. As a patient gets older, unfortunately for most turkey necks, non-surgical techniques are ineffective and will not provide the results that patients are looking for. In most patients, a full neck lift will be needed to correct a turkey neck in a way that's going to give them the results that they want. In certain patients, particularly older men, something called a direct neck lift can be performed. That is where the turkey neck is removed by making a zigzag incision across the neck. Adequate hair is needed in the neck to camouflage the scar and in addition, the zigzag pattern heals in a way that the scar becomes very imperceptible. The nice thing about that procedure is it's a lot less invasive than a traditional neck lift. But again, it really depends on the patient and that's why coming in for a consultation is so important.
